1959

It all began when Betty Wolf told her husband, Earl, she wants her own business. They purchased a soft serve ice cream franchise called ‘Dairy Isle’ and opened up in Bethel, Ohio. The Dairy Isle became the place to be for the community. First dates, first kisses and first ice cream cones are among the many memories created at the Dairy Isle. In the 1970s she was the turn around point for muscle cars cruising up and down SR 125. The Dairy Isle has seen many owners and each owner has added to her history. Decades later, after many name changes, the community still calls her ‘The Old Dairy Isle”.

2020

Glenn and Merry Stetz purchase the Dairy Isle.

It becomes clear early on that the community loves their Dairy Isle. Glenn and Merry are not owners but guardians of this Legend. The Dairy Isle is a member of a small group of Ma and Pa roadside Dairy Bars that remain in America and she is renamed appropriately, Legen-Dairy Whip.

Bringing this Legend into the 21st century is energizing with each improvement and repair that is made. The first season at Legen-Dairy Whip saw the addition of 2 more soft serve machines bringing the total up to 4, upgraded AC units, lots of electrical repairs, addition of 3-50AMP service for food truck events, new asphalt, covered outdoor seating, atmosphere upgrades, landscaping additions, menu changes, and strong support for the community that loves their Dairy Isle.

Another addition is Bigfoot. Bigfoot is one of the greatest Legends and it is rumored that he is here amongst us. There have been sightings at East Fork State Park and a local resident states that Bigfoot can be seen along a creek on his property in the evenings. In addition to Bigfoot there is a history of Crop Circles and strange lights in the sky. Stop by and take your photo with Bigfoot on the side of the building and if you are lucky you may even see him roaming around the Whip occasionally

2021

Our business plan continues to mature and we are on target with several upgrades planned for the 2021 season.

The building will get a new roof and makeover by Mr.Monroe Stutzman. Our Logistics Manager (Glenn) will install new canopy lighting and if we have enough energy we will paint the exterior this season. The electrical panels will be reconfigured and upgraded by Electricians Extraordinaire Dennis Weber and Brian. Repainting of driveway arrows by Houck Asphalt. Minor flooring repairs and 2 new front serving windows will be installed by our Logistics Manager. The shed is being replaced with a 2 room shed from Miller’s Barns to help ease the tight space inside the building. We will address the fence at the rear of the property by doing some creative Merry landscaping/privacy options.. There will be tire gardens placed on the property. The outdoor covered seating area will be expanded. We will continue to donate and support the community with monetary and product donations at our discretion. We have a budget and will stay on budget so we can be here for the long haul.

2022

Replace all picnic tables, continue outdoor enrichment and further address the rear of the property to create a welcoming backdrop. Replace, repair or redesign paddock. Continue replacing the floor inside building. Repaint inside building. Continue to support the community with monetary and product donations at our discretion. We will stay on budget!
